Lessons with Shyla
01
Voice lessons for Adults & Kids
Every lesson is built around where you are in your singing and what you want from it. Beginners start with the basics: breathing, pitch and finding your chest voice. More experienced singers work on expanding their range and finding the style that's theirs. Kids can start from age 5, or by assessment, and adults of every level are welcome.
02
Songwriting
Bring a lyric, a voice memo or just an idea. Shyla writes and releases her own R&B music, and she'll help you turn what you have into a finished song: lyrics that say what you mean, a melody people remember and a hook that ties it together. Songwriting lessons work just as well online.
03
Working with GarageBand/Logic Pro
Learn to record your own songs at home. Shyla shows you how to set up a session in GarageBand or Logic Pro, record clean vocals, and stack and edit your takes, so you can make demos of your songs without booking a studio.
04
Microphone & Recording Studio Technique
Singing into a microphone isn't the same as singing in a room. You'll learn where to stand, how to control your volume and breathing on a recording, and how to prepare for a studio session so you get takes you can use, faster.
Watch Shyla
Shyla Gray is a Toronto-based singer-songwriter whose music merges soulful R&B with raw, emotional storytelling. Drawing inspiration from artists like Amy Winehouse and Adele, Shyla discovered her love for music early on and has cultivated a voice that is both timeless and contemporary.
Shyla offers singing lessons for beginners and advanced students. Your lesson will be curated to where you are at in your singing journey and your unique goals. Work on expanding your vocal range, finding your singing aesthetic style, access your chest voice, and more. Your classes are private lessons and are available in person in Mississauga. Online lessons are also available.
Shyla's breakout releases have landed on coveted Apple Music editorial playlists including New In R&B, Brown Sugar, and Northern Vibes, as well as Rap Season’s New Music Friday. Shyla has collaborated with Grammy-winning producer Mike Hector on Nobody Else (2024), a track praised by Vince Staples, Jordan Ward, and Boi-1da. In 2025, she teamed up with acclaimed rapper Deante’ Hitchcock on the single Somebody Else, further cementing her reputation as an emerging voice in Canada’s R&B scene.
Industry figures such as Sean Garrett, London On Da Track, and former Island Records executive Darcus Beese have taken early notice of her artistry. Now partnered with Drumatized (Forbes- profiled production company) and Reflection (management and creative firm), Shyla is preparing her debut EP Nothing Left to Feel (February 2026).
Through themes of heartbreak, unrequited love, and emotional vulnerability, Shyla’s music connects deeply with listeners who crave authenticity. Her upcoming singles First Time (October 2025) and More (November 2025) set the stage for a bold new chapter in her career—one that seeks to blend personal storytelling with sonic sophistication, and to bring her soulful voice to wider audiences across Toronto and beyond.
