Now working almost exclusively as an actor, writer, and producer in the Film & Television industry, Camp on Fire Productions Co-Founder Ocean began his arts career as a vocalist at a young age in the Southern Alberta prairies. After having won awards for classical voice (AB Provincial Music Festival, Concerto Competition, Dr. Dasha Goody Memorial Foundation Scholarship), they chose the Musical Theatre career path, for which they now hold a Master’s Degree from Guildford School of Acting, at the University of Surrey, UK.
Ocean’s career has taken them from the prairies, across the pond to England, and to Toronto, which they now call home. In the 15 years Ocean has devoted to their artistic career, they have performed lead and supporting roles in musicals such as: A Little Night Music, Spring Awakening, The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz, & Next to Normal. They have written and performed numerous cabarets, plays, and musicals, and has recently been developing a Non-Binary musical with Juno Winner & Grammy Nominee Pablosky Rosales, from the Cuban band Cubanismo. As a writer and producer for Film & Television, their most recent endeavour is a TV Pilot for the comedy series they co-created, “The Bounce,” which featured key creatives from Schitt’s Creek, Kim’s Convenience, and Kids in the Hall.
Alongside their artistic career, Ocean has invested countless hours into their career as a vocal coach, and now works with singers of all skill levels in Pop, Jazz, and Musical Theatre with techniques from Estill to Alexander, as well as some which are unique to singers on their side of the Atlantic. They are one of the few vocal coaches in North America to incorporate
techniques found in the Laryngeal Conditioning System, which aims at freeing the voice through balancing acoustics & power, dealing with issues in registration, and allowing singers to produce a healthy mixed belt. Ocean has sat in on studio sessions with their students, helped to craft & write original material, and helped to produce demos from their studio.
