Soprano Nicole Ross has been praised for her “simple, unaffected acting and gorgeous vocal tone.” Originally from Nova Scotia, Nicole is a recent graduate of the Voice Performance program at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music, where she studied under the tutelage of Joanne Kolomyjec. She started studying voice and music at a young age, and has performed both in ensembles and as a soloist in recitals and festivals across Canada.
Nicole has been a very active performer during her time at McGill, and finds herself at home in a variety of styles, from Early Music to Art Song and Opera.
She has been the recipient of several prizes and scholarships, including McGill’s Oxford Music Scholarship, the Evelyn Adamson Johnstone Memorial Prize for Promising Soprano, and support from the Nova Scotia Talent Trust. She has also been recognized for her performances at the Classical Singer Competition, where she placed Third in the University Intermediate Category, and at the Federation of Canadian Music Festivals National Music Festival, where she placed Second in the Voice category.
Nicole’s Opera credits include Suzanne in Opera McGill’s Horizons Project Production of Schubert’s La Croisade des Dames, Grace Davis in Kurt Weill’s Street Scene, and Flora in Britten’s The Turn of the Screw with Opera McGill. She also recently took part in Opera McGill’s collaboration with Tapestry Opera on Digital Opera Projects, which highlighted the works of living Canadian composers.
